Medical Qualifications
Professor William Ayliffe qualified with a Bachelor of Science in Immunology First Class Honours degree in 1979 before receiving his medical qualification from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London in 1982. Following this, Prof Ayliffe received a Diploma of Ophthalmology as well as Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and London, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London.
Prof Ayliffe was awarded a PhD in 1993 from the University of Manchester for his work in Immunology.
Medical Experience
Prof Ayliffe is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Prof Ayliffe is Professor of Medicine for the renowned Gresham College in London and lectures there, as well as at the Museum of London and the Science Museum, for the public education of science.
He is currently a Consultant Ophthalmologist for The Lister Hospital, London where he is available for private patients and specialises in cataracts, problems with the cornea, and inflammatory diseases.
