Medical Qualifications
Dr Simon Mark Greenfield qualified in 1984 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from King's College Hospital Medical School in London. In 1987 he received Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (London) and became an elected Fellow of the College in 2000. Dr Greenfield was awarded a Medical Doctorate in 1993 from the University of London for his thesis on ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. He is guidelines editor of “Gut”, secretary to the Clinical Services committee of the British Society of Gastroenterology (www.bsg.org.uk) and is responsible for the editing and production of high quality guidelines for UK gastroenterologists.
Medical Experience and Training
He completed his higher training at the St Thomas's and Whittington hospitals, London as well as The Middlesex Hospital. In 2009 he received a travelling Fellowship to the Medical University of South Carolina, USA.
He is a highly experienced gastroenterologist and endoscopist practising in Hertfordshire at the Spire Hospital Harpenden; the Lister Hospital, Stevenage; the Capio Pinehill Hospital, Hitchin; and Elizabeth House within the QE2 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City.
Dr Greenfield is considered an expert in his field and has a large NHS and private practice. He treats a wide range of conditions affecting the gut. He practises all forms of endoscopy including gastroscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP. Typical conditions that he treats include all forms of stomach problems, heartburn, indigestion, all types of bowel problems including irritable bowel syndrome, constipation and diarrhoea, and pancreas/bile duct problems. He has published widely on topics such as colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, constipation and endoscopy.
